Ford F-150 rusting prematurely
I am not sure if I should be concerned or not but perhaps someone here with a little more experience than me with Ford trucks can shed some light on this. I have a fairly new 2012 ford F-150 supercrew FX4 ecoboost and I love my truck for the most part. Just today I was looking at my truck and I noticed a little bit of rust on my exhaust tip. Its not Chrome or anything but it should still last longer than a year or two on a 47k truck. I then looked underneath and it was pretty rusty like if I lived in the snow or something. I have seen cars from up north rust pretty quickly underneath but I live in Florida. I do own a boat and I have used my truck to tow my boat only 3 times since I bought it (I had a two babies in the past 2 years so its hard to get out there) so it cant be the salt water especially since I make sure not to dip my truck in the water and I rinse it off just in case. I live up on a 44ft hill so I don't get any flooding and the only water getting to it is rain water. My wife's SUV is a 2008 Kia Sorrento and I looked underneath and it has a lot less rust than my 1 year old truck. Did ford skimp out and use cheap metal on some parts? Should I be concerned? If anyone else is experiencing the same issue I would like to hear about it.

Thats all pretty normal...I have a 2013 as well...looked the same except I learnt a trick from an old friend of mine...I spray everything under my truck with diesel (except the exhaust) every fall and it gives me a bit of protection against all this rust and winter road salt.

I would say that looks normal to me as well. For some reason the rear ends in the newer fords develop surface rust the minute they roll off the line. I have a new Mustang and looks worse than that and car has been in the rain maybe twice.
