Default FOMOCO techs - reflash upgrade

Hi guys -

I had the lead frame recall done on the Blue Ox, a 2011 XLT with 5.0, and part of it was reflashing the ecu, which I understood was just to make sure it wouldn’t downshift to 1st gear at 45 mph again.

But last week, I took my truck to a local shop, because one of the axle seals on the front differential was coming apart, and the tech told me that he checked my truck for any more service bulletins or recalls, and that when he hooked his computer up to my truck that I had the latest software upgrade, and that I was lucky because it is usually $120.00 for it.

Other than the well-known tranny problems, has anybody else gotten this software upgrade?

And what did it do?

I admit, that my truck does have a different personality, but does anybody know the details of this flash?

Crickets

Since none of the techs that frequent this forum chimed in on this, I’m going
to assume that the purpose of 5his ‘flash upgrade’ are to redistribute $120
from customer to shop

The $120 has nothing to do with software. That is a one hour charge that dealers will claim they have to charge for doing this 10 minute job.

You answered your own question. It is a software flash to stop down shifting at hwy speed. Nothing more. You received it free as it is an active recall on certain trucks. The actual cause of the failure is the lead frame.

If you want anything more specific than that you'll have to consult with a Ford software engineer.
