First time in the mud with FX-4
Hi all!
Well with a little more than 1200 miles on my truck and 10 days of ownership, it was inevitable that I would get in the mud.
(I didn't get the FX-4 model for nuttn' )
Wanted to report that the traction control business is not as bad/intrusive as many have made it out to be. I tried 4 wheel with and without the tc disabled. I was able to make progress in the mud in both modes, but there is no use leaving the tc on as you can hear all the electronic nannys doing their thing. I was able to power slide through the mud in either mode as tc does not alter physics. So for those of you who fear your f-150's electronics may spoil your fun in the rough stuff fear not. I did not go more than 35 mph to test the report that the tc turns itself back on at this speed, but believe that if you are off-roading responsibly, this should not be a problem. I am sure Ford programmed the 35 mph re-activation as a guard against the yahoos who think that because they are driving a 4x4 (particularly in snow/ice) they are invincible.
If anyone is curious, I did not try the locker out. I will wait for more challenging terrain for that. My truck has 18" wheels with goodyear wranglers which managed ok despite their rather conservitave tread pattern.
Here are a few pics from after the fun today. I have already cleaned the truck off, but you can rest assure this is only the beginning of my off-road adventures - as my work demands it (not that I am complaining
