First scratch
My truck got it's first visible scratch today, and I need to keep it from rusting till I get it repaired. I don't think the scratch is seriously deep, but being that it is Tux Black, I want to eventually get it fixed (probably after the new year, depending on cost). I'm going to take it in for an estimate on Monday, but I was curious as to if there was anything I should do immediately?

my 8 year old nephew gave my 2010 it's first scratch(es)... opened the passenger door into a chain-link fence... but it doesn't look like it went to the metal, so I'm not worried about rusting; I'll eventually get a touch up brush and fix it
I was going to suggest clear silicone too, but yeah that probably wouldn't be a good idea on bare steel...

Sorry,my bad on the silicone, I guess. I have used it before w/no negative results. Covered a dime sized chip on a 77 celica I had and it was on there for over 10 years. I did see where the silicone does contain some type of acid so I think you should avoid that. Probably just keep a good coat of wax on it for now and if it's not to long maybe try the touch-up paint. I am not very good at making it look professional tho.

Thanks ya'll. I pretty much have taken some of that spray on detailer stuff for now (it's the only wax like product I have at the moment) so we'll see how that goes.

I have had a few in my tuxedo black and used the Turtle Wax scratch stuff and worked great. I got hit in the left rear bumper cap and it took out most of the scratches. Some were pretty deep so it covered them up pretty good but they can still be seen if up really close. Maybe try that or another type.
