Why not change it at 3k? Doesnt hurt anything really. I feel better about it considering I drive pretty much all city, short trips, winter idling, etc... and I drive my truck hard.

And I had a hard time getting the new one on because it's in an akward spot...

Better new oil than an engine swap, any day of the week.
Your gonna drain pure synthetic oil out of your truck every 3000 miles ??
waste of money...if your gonna do your oil change every 3000 miles why not use a synthetic blend like motorcraft...

I built a couple small block chevy engines back in the motor head days of my youth. So no factory break in of course. The theory was, change the oil after 1k as new engine parts at break in run hot and break down the viscosity. Also, the rule of thumb was to break in the engine how you plan to use it, and yes no matter what do NOT run at the same rpm. After break in; regular intervals of 5k or factory recommendation is fine.

The ones that love you the most for changing that oil at 3000 miles is the oil company. Absolutely unnecessary for engines today. Synthetic is another waste in my opinion. All oil has to meet standards and as long as they do they will do the job.
