Default First F150, need advice

I'm looking to buy my first F150 this summer and need some advice.

So far I've decided on a supercrew w/ leather (baby #1 on the way and wife approval factor) and 4x4. I also live in Florida and plan to buy a boat (24 ft CC at most) in the next 3 years. I've looked at some loaded out XLT's and Lariats with both the 5.0 and ecoboost engines and prices ranging from $36 to $42.

I'm looking for any guidance on the engines and trim packages. Also looking for average off of msrp folks have gotten recently.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The EcoBoost is a GREAT towing engine, and depending on the weight of your boat, you'll probably be OK with the 3.55 rear end gear set. Are you considering 2 wheel drive as you live in Florida? I personally like to stay at less than 70% of the truck's rated maximum towing capacity, so if the truck is rated for 10,000 pounds, I like to keep no more than 7,000 hanging off the rear when towing.
As to the amount you can expect the truck to be discounted --- the higher the price, the more the discounts you may have available to you. I would expect with a truck around $35,000 to get $5,000+ off. Ranging up to $50,000, where you can expect $10,000+ discounting.

I considered 2WD, but heard that pulling boats out of rampa would need 4x4 at times. Any truth to this?

I would definitely go 4x4....you will need it sometime whether it's snow, mud, or especially a boat ramp!

I wouldn't waste the money on a 4x4 in Florida. More service for a no snow state. I had the last two f150' in 2 wheel (fx2). That is just my opinion.

I have several boats and have always owned 2WD trucks. Ramps aren't a problem for me.

I pulled a loaded 20' trailer from AZ to Oregon....with my 2wd Titan (wish it had been my F150 now!)...anyways, I had to pull it through wet gravel and dirt(mud) up a hill...slowed down to enter the vineyards and started to spin my wheels....long story short....4X4 would have fixed that drama.
For me I always said that if I had a truck....4x4 regardless! (Except the Titan)...plus the resale value is higher....if you ever get rid of her.

I have never needed 4wd at a ramp with my 6500 lb Mastercraft. The fuel milage drop isn't worth the up charge of maybe the 1 time you'll use 4x4.
