First Dealer: Not The Deal I Was Looking For
Went through the first unenjoyable dealer exercise today, dread like the dentist.
2013 fx4 screw
Truck sticker for $49,580
Discount $4,488
Sticker $45,092
Tax $2,189.69
Gov Fees $196
Proc/Doc Fees $189.30
Truck sale price $47,666.99
Rebate $4,000
Trade $14,000
Out the door $29,666.99
There is no way I will trade my immaculate (even the gas cap port is waxed behind the door ocd clean) 2008 TL for $14,000. Kelley Blue Book shows a trade value for $15,500 (dealer retail $19,700) in excellent condition. It has new tires, all synthetic fluids, new brakes, blah blah blah, even my wheel barrels are waxed. Still under the factory powertrain warranty. Might have to keep it.
I believe there is more in the truck pricing discount than the $8,500?
I keep reading on here of people getting $10-12k off of msrp. Next steps they will need to close in on my target price to keep the sale while I start going to other ford dealers to see who wants a 4x4 truck off their lot at the start of Chicago summer. Any thoughts if I am off in my readings of the $10-12k discounts?

Not seen too many dealers giving what KBB shows for trade. Need to get black book or what shows on Manheim auctions (MMR) to see.
I've never considered sales tax as part of the deal making. That is between the government and I. In my state, I have 30 days to go to the DMV to pay my sales tax.
Yep, I hate the purchase of a new vehicle, the games you have to play with multiple dealers to just get a decent deal.

Yeah, if car can only draw $14k at this point I will just keep it in the garage, it is paid for any who and runs like a sewing machine.

Could always try and sell it outright

I bought from the first Ford dealer I stopped at. I thought the dealer's price was resonably fair. 2013 FX4 just a hair over 50K sticker price, out the door after freight, tax, rebates, adding a spray in bedliner was 41,5. And they gave me enough for my trade that I was happy (now they have it for sale for 7k more than they gave me, lol)

No offence to you but the dealer doesn't care about how clean you've kept your car or that you put synthetic fluids in it, new brakes, ect...
You should attempt to sell the car yourself on Autotrader, Ebaymotors, and so on. You'd be looking at an extra $3 to $4K and the private buyer would appreciate and care about the attention to detail you've given to the car.
Good luck

You need to check your trade price on www.galves.com since that is what most dealers use which is a wholesale pricing. KBB is a joke!
Also, your state sucks in that you have to pay taxes on your trade in. In NJ where taxes are the worst at least the trade in comes off the price of the vehicle then taxes are added to that final price. Saving a chunk of change. I am sure in NJ that will change one day but for now it helps when trading in on a new car.

I bought a 13 FX4 last month. Traded in a 2008 Sierra that KBB listed at 19k trade value. Even in our Podunk neck of the woods I got 20.3k for my trade and invoice minus 5k in rebates. I'd find another dealer if I were you. You need to shop at least two or more dealers with your trade. I was lowballed initially by my dealer, but when they found out I was shopping them vs another dealer they came way up on my trade value.
