Default Finally a true believer in the Ecoboost

I just wanted to share my experience with the 2013 ecoboost. I got the truck at the end of January and I loved the power but I was only averaging about 12.5 mpg with going around town. This weekend I finally saw 20 MPG twice and I was shocked, I was doing 65MPH from the Philly area out to north central PA. With the hilly high way it really never down shifted on the high way where my old 03 5.4 would be shifting all the time from going up the hill and then back down. I have 7000 miles and haven't had any problems with it shuttering or loosing power. Going from the 5.4 where I had good power and only got 11-13 mpg to the ecoboost with great power and great MPG for a truck I couldn't be happier with the motor.

Non oxygenated summer gas and warmer weather will make a huge difference in the mpg the EB is capable of....I could not get near 17 on the highway all winter, and now am routinely capable of 22+ at the same speeds and roads. The city mpg has gone from 14-15 to 18+ as well.
Glad to hear that you are so happy with yours too......

Even when they changed gas it wasn't that much better and I knew it would get better when they switched. I was doing 70 the week before and I only got 16MPG so I was surprised that doing 65 got me 20MPG.

It is not uncommon that when you slow down you see pretty big increases in MPG reported. I can get 18.5 going 80 on a flat road, if I slow down to the posted limit (and this has become my M.O. lately) of 65 around here I can post almost 24MPG.

Mind you, that's with the 3.15 gears that I ordered SPECIFICALLY to eek out the best possible mileage. It still pulls like an SOB, I just don't jump off the line like those with the 3.55s or 3.73s. I'll drive further than them on the same tank though. HA!

I wanted the 3.73 since I was planning on using 35s on the truck so I'll be interested in seeing what it does for the MPGs. They should bring down the ratio to about 3.30ish gear but then I have the extra weight. With your 3.15 gears I think you still have more than my old truck and most people don't tow that much so they would be a good gear to have but then you have guys like me that want to more power and normally won't use it lol.

I averaged 21 mpg highway from Dallas to (what's left of) El Reno, OK. Most of the time I was averaging 80-85 mph. The transmission wouldn't downshift from the sixth gear. I can get 16 in the city primarily because I have a heavy foot. Gotta love the amount of torque in these rigs.

The last time I did 80 I was only getting like 13.5 MPG so I will only do that when I have to. Most of the time it's 70 since the right lane is too slow around the philly area.

Exactly. This is my daily driver and bass boat hauler. I may be what some call the Boulevard B****, but I guarantee you that I will never have to rent a truck from Lowes/HD when I have some home improvement project I need to tackle, AND I have the added benefit of being 2 feet taller than a car on the road.

There's nothing wrong with a pavement princess, I thought of just leaving the leveling kit on mine and just leaving it as a road truck but I love the look of the lifted trucks and I hope my wheeling spot is going to be opening again.

I'm a strong believer too. 26k mi and no issues with my engine except a bad relay. Here's my mileage numbers from this weekend:
