Question FED UP with Vibration at 55mph!!!!!!

Can't take any more of this annoying vibration and looking at the rear bed/tailgate shake sometimes violently.

I know, you guys say, Not another "vibration" thread, but i don't think this is the same at the previous threads.

I don't have a "shudder", nor do I have an "ecoboost".

this is a 2012 4x2 Regular Cab XLT with the 18" Michelin Tires.

the vibration comes into play between 50-60mph, Worse at 55mph.

When I first got the truck, I thought it was the cold weather and the tires. Now that its warmed up considerably, it still seems to be the tires.
Mainly, the back driver side. the whole driver side of the truck shakes.
my leg shakes, if I lay my hand on the door rest, it shakes, the passenger seat shakes. The door rest started shaking violently yesterday. The mirror shakes because of the vibration. I tried to aim the mirror where I could see the tire turning to see if it was out of balance, but really couldn't tell anything, everything was just vibrating and shaking. Others have suggested the driveshaft is out of balance or defective.

I thought it might be the air deflection in the bed causing it, so I've driven with the tailgate up and down. No difference, the driver side of the bed just bounces up and down like its doing a dance.. I've never owned or driven or ridden in any truck that felt like this (came from a 07 silverado before a ford----smooth ride)

I've dug all thru the threads and captured comments on people who've had any vibrations. Alot are the ecoboost comments, so I don't want to go into the dealer speaking of stuff that might not be causing the vibration.

also, i'm going to request to drive the same model of truck I have that the dealer has on the lot. they have two new trucks that are exactly like mine.

this has become frustating. sometimes I have a dull headache when i've driven in this truck for a while.

Strange though, that this only happens around 53-58mph, with 55 being the median range.

Anyone else had this issue in a 4x2 Regular Cab. Not interested in extended cab comments, or ecoboost comments......Believe those issues are specific to those models. I have no "shudder".
I have the 3.7 V6.

Thanks!!

Check your driveshaft or Ujoints. My brothers GM had the exact same problem right from the factory. Dealer changed the U joints, and it didn't help. They replaced his driveshafts and the problem was solved. Apparently, it was slightly bent causing the vibration at about 100 kph.

Since it's a new truck why not take it back to the dealer? I wouldn't let them give me a truck and it shake like that. You don't need to know what your talking about just say it's shaking and fix it. Let them figure it out.

Two others users in different forums blamed the 18" Michelin tires. When replaced with different tires (Goodyear), it vibration went away.

No explaination of why the "vibration" is WORSE on the driver side.

i can watch the bed bobble up and down on the driver side, but its not as violent (or at all) on the passenger side.

Another user suggested that there are "weights" on the driveshaft, and that one of them may have came off. WHERE ARE THESE WEIGHTS so I can identify them?

Your tire could have lost its balancing weights. I had a buddy with a Jeep wranger and it lost the weights on one of its tires and around 50-60 mph it would get what we call the "death wobble". He had 32inch tires and it was pretty rough for that little bit. I don't know if it could cause a full sized truck to shake that bad but its what it sounds like to me. If you take your truck to the dealer maybe you could ask them to balance your tires? Just out of curiosity are your rims/tires stock? If they are then have you always had the vibration and if they are after market then did it only start after getting new tires? Just a thought. Hope you can get it fixed.

Bring your truck into your dealer and request to have your tires force balanced.

Super common to have tires balance that are out of round on a traditional tire balancer and so force balancing balances tires while under a load. Very accurate and anybody who sells maximum performance tires will have a force balancer. Your dealer may not have a force balancer but Ford will pay for your dealer to find somebody who does.

Had the same problem on an '05 F150 when new.

Its going back this afternoon. I dread the saga I'm about to go through...i've read other's stories of what they've had to get done to correct it, and some STILL have the issue.

Claim the lemon law after THREE attempted repairs? i'll have to look up that in TN!

I could be wrong but I believe the weights should be on the inside of your rim. Get a flashlight and look around for little square weights.

I was referring to some kind of "weights" on the DRIVESHAFT, not the rims....Someone suggested if one fell off, it would make the driveshaft vibrate.
