Default Factory Stereo Options

What thoughts do you have on the stereo systems in the new F150's? I'm assuming the basic option is pretty blah, but I don't know much about the Sony upgrade. Is it worth getting, or should I stick with the base option and get some aftermarket speakers?

I love the Sony system. Very clear and crisp. I'm all about sound quality. The basic stereo doesnt have the full range of sound that the Sony one does. But it still gets the job done.

I have the base option and they SUCK! My dads F-250 Platinum has the Sony speakers and they are much much much better, but to me, there are better aftermarket speakers. I just bought new speakers for mine because I couldn't take it anymore lol

The base system is OK, but not great. The Sony system is a major upgrade. Since you can only get the Sony system in the FX trims and above, you can certainly upgrade the base system to give equal or better sound quality if you don't care about the other upgrades that come with the upper trims.

It's all junk!!! Even the Sony compared to a decent set of after market speakers, amp, and sub/amp. There's always something that gets neglected on a vehicle and for these trucks it's the stereo. Now Ford gives you 9,000 ways to hook to the stereo with Sync...when it decides it wants to work!

My basic speakers suck. I listened to the Sony ones at the dealership. Even when they are cranked there is distortion. I save your money for a upgraded audio system.
But then again it all depends on your hearing and how picky you are

hmmmmmmmm yep stock system's suck!!!
We have 2 ford trucks FX4 has more base then my New 2012 Xlt but thats not saying much!

I just up graded everything but the deck (for now)here is what I have
stock deck
Alpine V70 5 channel amp
Infifnty 8602cfx 4- 6x8"
MTX 12" Sub & Form Fitted Fiberglass Box
Dynamatted all 4 doors & door panels
2 High out put line converters, one for 6x8 speakers and other for sub
wire kit
Alpine Bass **** - to control the bass on the sub so I don't have to go into the deck all the time.
BUT!! Im going to get 7" pioneer or Alpine deck with EQ and persets, much better then stock deck but hey with the stock deck dosn't look like any upgrades were done or to be stolen..lol...and it still Pounds.....I mean Pounds......I like Loud and hard hitting Bass and clean High's and I have all that

also all the componets match each other so you can crank it loud and clear and just keep cranking it up! :o)

Good Luck!

Grant

I'm kinda with Grandpa on this. I have the stock head unit with add-ons: Alpine 300w amp, Alpine 500w sub amp, (2) 10" Sony subs, 4 Infinity door speakers & an AudioControl parametric equalizer.

This set-up retains the stock appearance, Sync & steering wheel controls. It also delivers very good sound control and quality, in a system that really kicks. I do not have any plans to upgrade the head unit.

Tufcat,

I like your choice for a system!..lol

I was going to get the 300 & 500 but they talked me into the 5channel V70 which does what those 2 do and alittle more ...it was the same cost as the 2 amps 400.00 but they gave it to me for 329.00
I want the eq so I might go to a new deck but for now it does everything I need it to do and just rocks my truck!..lol

Cheers!!

Grant

I'm not impressed by the sound out of these speakers, but I won't do much with this one as I am hoping to keep it as a collector to sell in 30-40 years. But when I add a daily driver (hopefully another F150) I'll be adding Focal highs and mids and a JL W7 with Xtant amp. Best that I've used to date.
