Default F150 Transmission Problem

Hey everyone I have a 2013 5.0l F150 with the 3.73 gear ratio for the rear. It has 85,000km on it and when in the first 3 gears I hear a soft grinding noise its not extremely loud but its obvious its there. Especially when i'm slowing down. For example when i'm about to stop at a red light and i'm slowing down it will stay stuck in 3rd gear and make the noise(sounds like scraping and grinding) then go straight into 1st sometimes without going into 2nd. Its an automatic transmission but on the dash it shows you what gear you're in. If any of you have any idea what it could be I would really appreciate it. Thankyou! Also ill be taking it to the dealership Thursday afternoon which is going to cost 2 hours of diagnosing.

Shifting from 3rd to 1st and skipping 2nd is normal. Is the noise not present in gears above 3rd?

Does it make the grinding noise all the time or just when slowing down? Is it when you hit the brakes? Does it go away when you engage the 4wd?

Put it in 4x4 and see if it goes away. I have a lazy IWE that makes a grinding rubbing noise when slowing to a stop if the temps are below 45 degrees. I've replaced both and still have the problem only when it's cold. I think the grease in them has some water in it and it freezes or sticks when cold. Luckily I have a Lariat so I just put it in 4A when it's gonna be cold and forget about it. You might have a vacuum leak though, a vacuum guage/pump could verify if you have a leaky IWE (but mine still drag and both of mine hold pressure and my vacuum solenoid works as it should so don't get your hopes up to high).

Mine was doing the exact same thing. The dealership just replaced both sides. I dont trust 4A so that was not an option for me.

I replaced both of mine after I bought the truck last year with oem Ford parts. Noise went away until a month ago we had a cold snap and it's back. As long as it's above 50 it's gone, which is wierd cause above 60 and my driveshaft shudder dissappear too. I guess my truck just prefers warm weather.

Hey everyone the day before I took it to the dealership I inspected the truck myself a bit and I found the driver side rotor was cracked a bit and the inner pad was completely gone. I ended up replacing both front pads and rotors and the truck sounds fine now. Bought this truck in the summer and whoever had it before me put the pads on the wrong way. Thanks for everyone's help though really appreciated.
