I just noticed that both the write-ups here appear to have the same sidestep but the first one looks like it's cast aluminum with slots that the heads of the bolts slide into and the nut goes on the bottom side of the bracket, whereas the second install looks like the runners are stamped steel and the bolts go in from the bottom.

Interesting that ford switched the design somewhere here? I wonder which mine is, it looks the same as both from the top!

Damnit, i should've read more closely, i just looked at your first few pictures when iwas at the store and thought i only needed four pieces total, not four for each side, now I'm doing the project and am 60 miles from more angle iron

Found a buddy with some scrap angle iron, got it done! Hopefully the car wash don't rip them off now, haha!

I have run mine through the car wash a few times with no problems.

I've been trying to dream up a way a bracket like that could actuate/slide when you open the door..so the board is in the regular factory location when the door is closed, but it slides outward when you open the door. Hmm..

Get some electric actuators, mount the steps on slides and have them wired to slide out when the door opens and slide back in when closed. Possibly through the dome light circuits.

On another note, I may need to do this mod as the steps about kicked my @$$ during my first snow storm with my pickup

Yeah...just the weight that worries me. Want to make sure that setup could support my fat ***.

I've eaten sh*t from slipping my boards soooo many times...especially with slush buildup on them.

Or you could just buy some Amp steps haha. Otherwise it's gonna take some engineering ideas to make it strong enough yet small and fast enough.
