I bought one. Not sure I made the right choice but the finance guy came down $400 after I told him no twice. I was a first time Ford buyer and all the electronics in this truck is why I caved in. I bought knowing I would have the truck for 10 years. Time will tell....

This is my first Ford, too. I plan on keeping my truck at least 10 years, and I wanted the piece of mind so I got it. If one major thing goes wrong then it'll pay for itself so it seems like a good idea to me

If you plan on keeping your truck for a while I would, you can purchase a ford ESP plan any time but it's much easier before the 3/36 runs out but you can still get one after that,I looked in to it on a 2007 sport trac that we purchased a few months ago with low miles, I took it to my dealer and had them inspected it and I went online and purchased a ford ESP for 4 years 60k for 1070.00 much cheaper than what my local dealer sells them for, you have to fax or mail them a copy of the inspection report, just do a little research, I think for that price you can't go wrong.

I am a big believer in the extended warranty for cars. the 2004 Lariat I owned developed a nasty brake issue (the parking brake would engage while on the highway) and it was covered by the extended warranty (had the truck 3.5 years at that point). If not for the warranty I would have been out nearly $2k. Needless to say there is an extended warranty on my 2010 Lariat

You can get it after the sale, but if I remember correctly if you wait over a year the rates will go up. I bought mine 7 months after I got the truck on fordwarrantys.com

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!! But, don't buy it from the dealer at their cost. You can purchase the Ford ESP on line, http://www.fordwarrantys.com/. It was HALF price vs. what the dealer wanted. I showed it to my dealer and they matched the price.
Why should you buy it? I bought a 2008 FX4 Screw brand new and I purchased the ESP (100,000 miles) because I put a LOT of miles on for work. At 36,000 miles I started having issues and it didn't stop until I got my new 2011 FX4 this past Monday! Keep in mind, I did NOT abuse this truck at all! Here is what I experienced and thank the Lord I bought the ESP. As I said, this started at 36,000 miles up to 90,000 miles, basically over a 2 year period:
Wheel Bearing
Tie Rod End
Alignment
Heater Blend Door
Transmission #1
Instrument Cluster
Alternator #1
Battery
Alternator #2
Window Switches
Intake Manifold Gaskets
Engine Blew Up (Cam Chain Tensioner Failed-huge mess!)
Transmission #2 (Common tail shaft bearing problem?)
Mysterious transmission fluid leak that couldn't be found
The service manager told me that Ford invested over 20K fixing this truck!
RAN FAST AND DIDN'T LOOK BACK!
Ford took good care of me on this...eventually. I ended up with a new truck with a very favorable trade and I bought "A" plan AND they gave me the ESP for 125,000 miles free of charge.
BUY THE ESP!
