Default Extang Revolution

Just installed an Extang Revolution tonneau cover (for the second time) on my 2009 F150 XLT and figured I would share with you all. First the bad news, the cover does not fit well at all. The first one was REALLY bad fitting. First off, the clamping system does not hold the rails put. After 3 days, I had about a .25 inch gap between the cover rails and the bed rails. If you tighten the clamps tighter, the bed rails deform. Second, the cover is really loose in spots and sealing was almost non-existent. There were major gaps at the front of the bed and at the tailgate that allow air and water to enter the bed. Even with the supplemental seals they provide with the kit, the gaps could not be overcome as there is very little in the way of adjustability built into this cover. The cover-to-tonneau rail sealing was questionable also. In some areas (the middle sections), it seemed to seal well, but at the front and rear, it was really loose fitting and the seals really did very little sealing as they did not touch at all. The second cover seemed to fit a little better but still leaves a lot to be desired. Now the good news, Extang’s customer service was OUTSTANDING! They actually paid for me to ship the 1st cover back and shipped me a new cover at no charge. That being said, I cannot recommend this cover until they get the bugs worked out of it. The Revolution is a, well, revolutionary idea for a tonneau cover, it just needs some refinement. Until they get it worked out, my recommendation is to by-pass the Revolution for now. I am a mechanical designer and have almost 20 years in the business. Maybe I was expecting too much, I don’t know. What I do know is that once Extang works out the kinks, they will have a winner on their hands.

Thanks for your write up as I am now in the market for a cover myself!

Good info. Almost ordered that cover but went with the Trifecta and love it. Extang products are made well.

I let the parts store guy talk me into the extang over the truxedo. I wanted this style because I work as an electrian and wanted to be able to lock up my tools. The extang lets water in the because it does not seal very well. I even drilled a hole in the front of the rail to try to make it seal better. I would not spend the money on it knowing what i know now.
