Exploding rear window

So with winter approaching and having had one shattered rear window from last year ( I had pulled the fuse from the panel so I wouldn't have another. I was getting frustrated with not having heated mirrors in the mornings . I can live with the rear defrost not working but the mirrors was ticking me off. So this is what I did.
After watching a cpl of you tube videos on how to replace the rear window I clued in that the defrost wiring actually connects to the rear window at the bottom passenger side right in the corner , in my case two wires clip onto the window frame. I took a guess that the larger was power and maybe the smaller was ground?? So i unclipped the large wire. It's tucked in just behind the plastic cowl for the rear seatbelts. (I reached in with a narrow set of needle nose and gave it a slight tug)
I then put the fuse back in started truck and hit the rear defrost button. The indicator light in the dash DID NOT come on but the mirrors heated up and the rear window stayed cool.
I wrapped the connector in electrical tape and tucked it behind the sound proofing material behind the seat, I'll reconnect it when I decide to sell
I hope this helps anyone who doesn't want to shatter another window but wants to have the heated mirrors back

Good deal.
I wonder if the ground wire is too small?

2010 Ford F 150- Shattered window
Earlier this week, my husband was driving our 2010 F-150 to work, with the rear defrost on, after about 5 min he heard a loud noise, and looked back to see the rear driver side window completely shattered! I have never even heard of this until I did a search online, and I can't believe that this hasn't been recalled by Ford! We have a small child who rides rear facing in that vehicle, so I am NOT happy one bit about this ongoing issue with these windows. I hope Ford does right by us and covers the replacement 100%...we shall see! Problem Solvers here I come!!!

Keep us posted on what Ford says. I'd also file a NHTSA complaint.....

Ford will cover the defective defroster if diagnosed. Once the window breaks, you're paying for that (or your insurance).
