exploding back glass 2011 f150 fx4 ecoboost
was on my way to work at 5:20 am. I had rear defroster on, slide glass was shut. I heard a loud bang and pulled over to see what just happened. It was dark outside and I walked around my truck looking for the cause of the bang I heard. Saw nothing. Later that evening after getting off work, I get in my truck and start to pull out and see in my rear view mirror that my right of my rear power slide window is shattered. Can also see that at the bottom corner next to the sliding glass, on the rubber, that it appears to have gotten very hot. Took my truck to dealer today. I only have 31000 miles on the truck. They said they havent seen this in their shop but have heard of it happening before. Hmmm. Waiting on a call from them to see if ford is going to fix it. They said they have to take pics and send to ford and see if they will approve to repair it. I have read 2 other posts on here about same problem.

Damn! I bet you about **** your pants. Sounded like a gunshot, right? Happened in my buddy's car, and he nearly swerved off the road!

Tempered glass can be unstable for no reason at all. We had 3 Explorers with exploded lift gate glass just sitting on the lot. BRAND NEW with 1 mile on the clock. That was a little over 10 years ago, apparently it's still an issue.

This is a warrantable concern, do not let them tell you it is not. I work for a Ford dealership, and we have been replacing them for awhile now. Ford knows about the issue, but current it is not a recall, just a covered warrantable concern. The entire backglass will be replaced, with an upgraded part where they changed the wiring to correct the problem. It only happens on trucks with power sliders and rear defrost, when the defrost is on. Good luck!
