Default evap core gave up the ghost

2012 w/ 181k miles on it. Got in yesterday and soon as I turned on the AC the smell of freon hit me in the nose. Called a couple local shops, looks like ~3k is the number for new evap core, heater core, go ahead and replace both temperature blend door motors (its dual zone) and proactively do the fresh air/recirculate door. I was stunned though that one of the shops has a 5yr, 50k mile warranty.

part of me wonders if I sped up the failure trying to brush the dog hair off the front side last year (see my previous thread on cleaning the core) before I ended up back flushing it but oh well.

I just dont have it in me anymore to spend the weekend R&Ring the dash when its damned near 100 degrees out.

dont really need help just wanted to cry about it

that’s what I keep telling myself but not lately

I did all this myself but lately it’s been battery, both valve covers, fuel pump tappet (since it was apart), water pump, thermostat, cold pipe from IV to TB bc the stock one cracked, heater hose assembly, alternator, driver seat bottom foam. Last year was the expansion valve and dryer in the condenser

yes but not doing all 4 actuators, just the two temp control. I already replaced the fresh air/recirc motor - its easily accessible. The defrost/vent/floor is also easy enough.
they are replacing the fresh air/recirculate door. They just called and said $3,200 adding the 2 motors and recirc door. They'll order parts and I'll drop it off Monday, get it back Wednesday night or Thursday morning (apparently all techs do diagnostic work from open to lunch then repairs lunch to close so they do about 5hrs labor/day on repairs). Guess the mustang will get to play DD

just adding to this as an FYI - beware off brand evap cores (tyc in this case) as they're noisy - you can hear the pressure change pretty frequently.

I assume you are getting a complete evaporator housing from Ford at that price. It still will require transferring the recirc door assy and all the actuators and wiring harness for the plenum and heater core swap and other air control components. Might as well replace all those parts that require pulling the dash while there except for the harness.
