no it only makes that noise when it heats up and is at operating temp.

Mine does something similar @ 50k miles, I recently started using non-ethanol gas, ticking sound went away.

Went back to cheap ethanol blend, sound came back.

Cant hurt to try that, let it get down to 1/4 tank, fill up with good gas, see if it makes a difference.

It would eliminate fuel issues as possible cause.

Yes mine is a 5.0l. I try to. Run mid grade. (89) I have ran flex fuel e85 a few times. Injector cleaner or fuel treatment every 3 months or 5k miles~~ ISH.
