Engine not accelerating when pushing gas pedal
Twice now (both about 4 months apart) I've been driving my 2013 Ford F-150 Lariat EcoBoost and while in motion on the road the engine stops accelerating when I press the gas pedal. Obviously this is a major concern. The most recent time, when I coasted off the road to a stop the engine appeared to be vibrating. I shut the engine off and restarted the truck. It started up fine and was able to drive about 100 feet before it happened again. This time when I shut the engine off and restarted it the truck ran fine for 4 miles so I could at least make it home.
The check engine light is now on and when the issue was occurring the wrench symbol appeared on my dash. From my research it appears that might be a "powertrain failure" indicator. The truck needs the front differential replaced and we're waiting on the replacement part to be delivered.
Does it make sense that the loss of power to the engine when engaging the gas pedal is due to the front differential failing? Or should I be looking into these issues as entirely separate and thus need to consider alternative issues to the power failure while driving?
Thanks, in advance, for any guidance here.

If the dash warning lights are popping - would definitely see what they're about as at least a first clue towards what is going on. Keep in mind that the codes tell what the problem is, not necessarily what the solution will be.
