Default Engine Hours

Does anyone know how to retrieve your trucks engine hours. I dont think you can, but can you with OB2 scanners. My truck idles lots and I'd like to change my oil off of the hours rather than milage. I don't use the oil life meter I like changing the oil more often than that thing recomends.

If your truck is 2011 or newer, I believe the oil change reminder takes into account idling times.

If you set one of your trip counters in between oil changes, I'm 90% sure the trip meter has a hour meter.

I set my trip #2 setting when I got my truck and have never reset it, it gives me total running time since new, total mph, total fuel used, etc.

I just got a bluetooth ODBII so I will see what I can pull off it.

Keep in mind that the trip Meter starts time counting if the key is turned but even if the engine isn't cranked. So if you sit and listen to the radio or just Sit in the truck the accuracy is suspect.

Team Canada's advice is good, the few times where you listen to your radio, using the power retain function (ignition off) are negligible if it even advances your built in trip meter. I think they only count time when the ignition is on.
