Has anyone considered some type of ball valve or plug? That way everyone once and a while you can open the valve or unplug the weep hole to drain the system then close it back up to prevent "pinhole leaks" that effect performance.

A few guys wanted to install a screw and remove it at random. Dumb idea. The idea around the weep hole is to allow the buildup a exit out of the system.

Say you forget to open that plug and you step on the pedal and the motor injests all that junk. Then you are back to square 1.

The hole is so minimal it will not effect performance. Read the posts above.

I have read the posts above, in fact I have read through many threads consisting of years of opinions on many other forums, not just ecoboost either. There are plenty of other forums specializing in other manufacturers with intercooled turbo engines. This is clearly a controversial topic with many saying the weep hole is a nessessity to prevent future engine build up, whist many also say it effects performance by compromising the pressurized system.
Lacking ever finding any valid scientific results, such as before and after on a dyno, I have no idea how severe if any power loss there will be. I was simply suggesting the idea of drilling the hole for draining potentially harmful build up out of the intercooler, and plugging the hole back up or close some kind of valve to ensure they is no compromise in performance.

Your proof that there is no "severe" power loss is the the vast amount of members who have done it and are not complaining of power loss. Its a 1/16" hole for Christ sakes..

I drilled my weep hole (1/8") better than 6 months ago and I never felt any power loss. Before drilling the hole I did experience a delay under hard acceleration a few times and have not since.

It's not that I don't trust the hundreds of positive reviews about the "weep hole" mod. I just wish I could find some kind of controlled results.
That being said I will probably commit to doing this mod.

I guess if you do it and for some odd reason notice a dramatic loss in power, you could always plug the hole.

Just to reiterate what has been posted already in this thread, the turbos are controlled individually by a wastegate that opens when a pre-set pressure is obtained. The resultant by-product of opening up a hole in the CAC would then be a potential loss of pressure due to air being forced out of the weep hole. The result of that would be the wastegates staying open longer as the turbos build pressure until the same pre-weep hole pressure is obtained. Thus the wastegates will mechanically or electronically compensate for any potential loss in pressure so unless you drill a larger hole, the turbos will build boost to compensate for any losses due to this weep hole.

Default Wow - what a difference

So I have been on the fence with this whole "Drilling Da Hole" thing. My ecoboost would sit in idle there like it was missing, not big missing like shaking the truck, but enough for me to notice it wasn't idling right and I could see the Tach moving slightly up and down with the idle.

So I like many others thought it was the spark plugs which I took care of, I even added a catch can (you should see the crap that it catches) and even though having adding all this did not change the "missing" at idle, even when you punched it - it hesitated before it kicked in - all the same as everyone has been sharing.

Well, yesterday morning I decided to crawl under my truck with a 1/16 bit (tiny little thing) and drilled a hole and a little dribble of water immediately came out, I jumped in the truck, let it warm up and then rev'd it up a little and Somebeach - the damn erratic idle was GONE ! I was in total astonishment that a freakn little thing like this could make such a change. I took it out on the highway and punched it a few times and DAAAAMN - no hesitation.....!

Well, I just had to share this with you guys - sometime its the "Small" things in life that just make your day...... LOL.
