Default Ecoboost troubles make it to Jan/Feb 2013 Truck Trend Magazine

On page 10, an owner Ralph Baker has been put in a dangerous situation when his Ecoboost lost power and went into limp mode because of the condensation problem. He feels that the Ford fix, doesn't actually fix the problem.

Now Truck Trend (Motor Trend) is investigating the problem and will offer an update in coming issues.

Once publishers start documenting this engine as a problem engine in their truck/car magazines, I feel people will start avoiding it. Only time will tell but this 'could' be the turning point.

Ford better publicly address this, document how they will fix or replace it, and offer a 100% guarantee that owners will not be stuck with a truck that will see more shop time than road time.

If it wasn't for these forums I wouldn't even know that some people were having trouble with Ecoboost F150s. There are 6 (including mine) in the small town of 3k people I live in and nobody has had any issues with theirs. One of my friends had to bring his in for a transmission reflash for a harsh shift but that had nothing to do with the Ecoboost. The condensation issue seems to be more common in certain climates, but not here.

This is, or can be, VERY bad pr for Ford and the Ecoboost. Bad word on a product travels like wildfire, and Ford needs to put this fire out now! God forbid someone is seriously injured or killed due to the power loss issue.

I have 13,000 miles on my 2012 Eco which I bought in June and have not had the fall on its face problem yet. My only problem is the shutter between 45 and 55. Other than that I love the truck.

I have over 3,000 miles on my truck after having it for a month. Not ONE single issue with the EcoBoost. I've driven at different elevations, different temperatures, fog, light rain, heavy rain, and had the cruise control set for 400 mile trips. The truck never even hiccuped. I even tried to make it hiccup after driving a few hundred miles with the cruise set in the rain. Nada. I love this EcoBoost!

Remember, not everyone has this problem and/or it maybe under different conditions.

People started having problems towing heavy travel trailers in Arizona's full sun, up mountains in over 100 degree heat. Trucks shut down and went into limp mode while still pulling those travel trailers!

This happened in 2011 not long after I bought my 2010 5.4L and it was only a few people at the time. Now that the Ecoboost has been out longer, the issue is affecting many others.

Also don't forget Ford redesigned the intercooler on trucks built after September 2012, so you may have a later build.

And that most people only post on these forums when having problems. Seems like a lot of issues but probably a really small number comparing to how many ford sold. I'm around ford trucks all the time and alway talk to owners in public about them and they saying no issues. Sucks if you we're the ones with a bad trucks. Hopefully get your issues fix ASAP
