Default Ecoboost Transmission Problem

Sorry if this is sort of a re-post but the last post said "Hesitation". It is far from a hesitation. My 2011 F150 sometimes violently shifts from 1st to 2nd. Or downshift from 2nd to 1st. It feels like someone ran into the back of your truck. If someone out there has successfully had this fixed please let me know... I have had mine in the shop 5 times. Dealership says no codes, no problem.

Thanks .. William

Sounds like an f150 transmission problem, not ecoboost transmission problem.

They should be able to reflash the transmission to the newest version. I hear that can help it

My truck had this same issue when I first got it. Took it into the dealership where I purchased the truck and they reset it so it would relearn my driving style. This is not just disconnecting the battery for ten minutes, has to be done by the ford tech. This procedure fixed the issues that I was experiencing.

Default needs a reset

my 2009 had a terrible, hard 1-2 upshift along with a vicious 6-4 downshift when i picked it up, used, this spring. i swapped the fluid and had it reset and it has cleared up nicely. i only get a bit of a quick 1-2 shift when i first start out with cold fluid, but not nearly as bad as before. the 6-4 clunk is completely gone.

I have the same (rare) 6th to 4th shift sometimes when I step on it around 45mph when its in 6th gear. So what should I tell the dealer to do? Just "reset it"?

I should add that I just had the transmission fluid flush done too BTW but still had the rare violent 6 to 4 shift.

William, if I were you I would take it to the dealer. Have them reprogram the tranny, and check the fluid level. I have read post stating some have came from the factory low on fluid. Good luck.

Hi William.

I'd like to take a look at this for you. Could you please PM me your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info?

Hi Russ103.

I recommend taking your service manager for a drive with you, so you can demonstrate the concern to them. The more info they have, the easier a diagnosis will be.

Default Transmission service

I think it will learn over time, the "reset" just speeds things up.

One other thing: The "transmission service" i had done seems to be a drop of the pan, replace filter and refill with Mercon LV. This seems apparent because the invoice only showed 4 liters of fluid was replaced. The transmission holds 13+ liters.

I have since swapped out 10 liters of fluid and the transmission is silky smooth (other than the very occasional, SLIGHTLY harsh 1-2 shift when cold...not even close to what used to happen). While slightly cumbersome, changing the ATF (use ONLY Mercon LV) is not particularly difficult if you have the transmission cooler used in the tow and max tow package. Let me know if you want to give it a go and I'll write some instructions. I towed our 4000lb travel trailer 2500miles in the western states and provinces over three weeks this summer and the transmission was perfect. Between the fluid change, lubricating the slip yoke on the driveshaft and general engine tune up(plugs, fluids and filters), this truck is running like new at 80k miles.
