Default Is EcoBoost Engine Reliable ?

Hi guys,
I've decided to buy a used 2011 F150 and I'm thinking about an ecoboost engine.
I'm actually interested about ecoboot and prefer it on 5.0L engine. However when I watched some videos on youtube about ecoboost issues I became confused.

I wonder if it's a reliable engine especially in extremely hot weather which is about 122F (50 C)? and what about misfiring issues that I've heard about?

I'd appreciate some help!

Yes it is reliable. But those first gens had s few issues that you could or could not face. The major one being the CAC issue. That one has almost caused some deaths/accidents. How many miles? Id give it a thorough check over like any other used vehicle.

Horrible engine. Stay away!

Just kidding. Monitor your oil level and change it every 5k or so with a quality oil. You will be fine.

it is fine in the heat, but if you are towing in the heat then you might want to consider a lower temperature thermostat and or better intercooler

Stay away from the 2011's and you'd be happy. I wish I had of done some more research before I bought mine last August. But there wasn't a huge bout of timing chain or upper end rattles then. Seems to only be the 2011's so far with the issues, possibly early 2012's built in the latter part of 2011.

not a hater at all. I have an eco, I've been paying attention. 11 have been the worst by far and have been getting better as the years go on (CAC issue, spark plug gaps, fuel in oil, etc) a later 12 is a good compromise, but I would not get an 11. OH and as always, get a CPO and GET the extended warranty. You referenced Celsius temperature, so maybe you are in Canada? then don't get a truck without an extended warranty anyhow. Seen more Canadian issues with warranty than US, so dont skip the extended warranty. Just not worth it.

My dad has 85,000 trouble free miles on his 2012 Screw XLT 4x4. I have 40,000 on my 2012 Screw FX4.

There have been a few issues, but nothing major. There are fixes for them. This engine was built very tough. i dont think any short cuts where made by ford on this. they had to much riding on the line making a v6 there premium engine.

I've owned two 2011 F-150 Ecoboost trucks. The first an XLT 4x4 which I just traded in on a 2011 Lariat Ecoboost.

Truck #1: 2011 F-150 XLT 4x4

- CAC TSB completed
- No other issues with truck. sold at 40,000km.

Truck #2: 2011 F-150 Lariat 4x4 (64,000km)

- timing chain start noise/rattle (no fix currently)
- CAC update needs to be done
- strange noise coming from turbo
- miss at WOT

Thankfully I went through a different Ford dealer and bought a 5 year premiumcare ESP. I wouldn't buy a 2011 F-150 Eco without an ESP in place.
