Any reason that caused the rod to go?
We're you running a powerful tune?

This is happening lots on the EB's rods failing or pistons failing. Check the EB only forums and you will see. It isn't tune related these are failures of parts.

there's a lot that's not being said here... EBs don't have a "tendency to throw a rod".

I may be mistaken, but he bought it used and the previous owner ran it low on oil. There were pics n another thread showing the internals. He bought a used motor with 30,000 miles on it to swap in.

And, that's some of the "lot" that is not being said here...

I just don't like the false implication that there's an inherent flaw with the EB engines.

I'm not reading that at all, where can you give me some direction where I can read those threads. I have been reading where some of them are having "normal" issues just like all engines. Things are mechanical and not every engineered item is going to be work as engineered. Just ask the guy driving around the 300K 5 liter vs the guy who has a 5 liter that had an issue at less than 10K. Or talk to the guy whose battery failed the year they bought a vehicle. I just have not saw any of those mass failures you suggest - as a matter of fact I went EB off the EB threads instead of a V8.

Like I said head on over to f150ecoboost.net there are quite a few threads now detailing piston and rod failures.

Ford is still saying it's only 0.1% so it's an acceptable number...

This is exactly the type of non-scientific heresay stuff that has made the internets full of great knowledge for all mankind.
