Some of you ecoboost mo's crack me up! You guys act like the 5.0 can't get out of its own way...lmao
OP, I drove both extensively before purchasing and ended up with the 5.0. First and foremost, I liked the way it drove better than the Eco. Second, was all the little issues that seem to come with the Eco. Now I know I will get bashed and the Eco swingers will say it's only a fraction of trucks with issues, but still, there seems to be many more issues with the Eco than the 5.0.
Also, if speed is your main goal I would still say go with the 5.0 hands down. Bolt-ons and either a blower or some spray and you'll decimate. Quite frankly, I think buying a truck with speed as a main priority is *** backwards, but whatever tickles your fancy. If I wanna go fast I'll jump in my 600hp Mustang...

Im not talking speed although the ecoboost is faster I'm talking power which is torque and the ecoboost has 420 vs 380. Not huge difference but the little 3.5 is working a lot easier than the V8 to get there. And since you have a 600hp mustang I'm sure you're well aware of how easy it is to make more power with a turbo than a naturally aspirated engine.

Be that as it may, the Ecoboost originated in a car. So that immediately makes the context of your original argument invalid. The only motor in the lineup that originated in a truck is the 6.2L. Not trying to defend either one, I'm just here to get facts straight.

Once the 2015 Mustang goes on sale with the Ecoboost, will it be fair to say it too is also a car engine?
Yes, I know it's a 4-banger and not the one used in trucks but the principle is the same.
I'll throw in a screwball, DONT BUY A HALF TON.
Buy a 3/4-1 ton diesel instead. No debating who is the real king of the hill in truck land

Hahaha minivan motor thats cute
My sister had a 5.0 in her 1985 mustang gt, it was bad *** indeed...30 years ago!!
It's 2014 welcome to the future. Fords all-in on the ecoboost for a reason. The 5.0 was built for the MUSTANG not a truck, they just provide it so the rednecks can hear that V8 rumble. I can have over 400 hp and 500 ft/lbs for under $500 in upgrades. Try doing that with your car engine...

ECO and diesel is the future period like it or not. There isn't an endless supply of crude. The ECO can be made more powerful easier and for less $$ than the 5.0L. It has more power than the 5.0L and gets better/same gas mileage. The 5.0L is less complex which means less parts to fail down the road. The 5.0 has more than enough power for a half ton. When these trucks start becoming dinosaurs there will probably be more 5.0's on the road. Also no matter what others say the V8 is an American icon. Nothing sounds better. Just listen to the new F1 cars. Both engines are fantastic I would gladly have either one under the hood. The choice for me was made by price. If the dealer had a cheaper ECO I would be driving one.
