Thats great.......... and with 17 posts to the forum you obviously have a ton of real world experience to share with your F150.
I might add that its amazing you are going to call someone "not very smart" when you are selling an F550 in favor of an F150 for constant 10k+ towing. [/QUOTE]
My pleasure and glad I could help - here to assist anytime friend!

My first choice was EcoBoost but for some reason it was very difficult to find a fully loaded FX4 with EcoBoost when I was ready to buy my new truck so went with the 5.0. So far no complaints at all.

my 5.0 bogged and shuddered around 1800 rpms. it did this new and even more after the updated tune. i test drove an eco and it was smooth and did not shudder. i always been a v8 guy daing back to the 1979 with the 351M. but i think it is time for a change. if i want to drive a v8 i will pull my whipple H.O. 550 H.P. 07 mustang gt out of the garage!!

Some of you ECO guys really kill me downing the 5.0 that some other fellow F150 guys chose. Yes your ECO is powerful. Blah blah blah. Guess what? It is in the same wrapper as your FELLOW truck owners on this site. Each engine has a very distinct powerband to suit their potential owner. I drove both and debated both engines (must have was FX4). In my case, I dont tow heavy and got a good deal on the truck I bought. No regrets here with my lowly 5.0. To be honest, if I towed anything approaching max tow ratings, I would have never considered an F150. Yeah Ford rates them up there to compete and yes it will tow it. But, I would have went straight for an F250 for the chassis/brakes/tranny, etc. But thats my opinion. My dad has an 03 F150 and tows a 7000lb 5th wheel camper. Drug it to Florida, Smokey Mountains, etc. The 5.4 pulls it albeit with it screaming for mercy (he has none) up the hills.
Anyway, I would be as proud to own an ECO as I am now with my 5.0. The 5.0 suits me just fine. It is a little soggy on bottom end but once it climbs the tach it more than makes up for it. Polar opposite of the 5.4 2V in the wifes Expy. Anyway, I am new to this site as I frequent another Ford site also and joined this one when I bought my F150 so you can dismiss me all you want. I choose to support all Ford owners regardless of platform/engine choice. We drive the best vehicles produced and should be on the same page. Talk smack about the competition.
And before I go I have to defend my lowly 5.0. Some of us at work have an unofficial speed test in which we enter the interstate onramp and there is a turn as you actually straighten out to get on the interstate. The rule is to make the turn at 40 mph and floor it once straight. Goal is to measure speed at a roadsign on the right side of the interstate. My truck (with the lowly 5.0) hits 88-89 mph. A buddies LLY Duramax with a Diablo tune on tow setting hits 84-85. A Camaro SS hits 98. A tuned 91 Talon (with larger turbo, injectors, header/exhaust etc) hits 92-93. My wifes Expedition hits 75 as did my last 7.3 Excursion with a Superchips tuner, CAI, and 4" exhaust.
I also have a good friend with an IDENTICAL mate to my truck except it is an 11 and an ECO. He is pulling 16 mpg as is my 5.0. We havent lined up side by side on the dragstrip but he challenged me to another redneck speed test-you guessed it- another interstate entrance ramp. His rule was come off of the entrance ramp bridge at 15 mph and see what I get by yet another roadsign. He hit right at 100 mph and shut off (so he claims- I thought he should have shut off at 95). Anyway, I did it and spun as it went back to first. Once the traction control nannies had enough I held it to the radiator. About 6 truck lengths before the sign I hit the speed limiter at 95 mph and felt like I hit the brakes. That 5.0 had a full head of steam and he was shocked when I told him what the mph was.
I know I am all over the place with my post- for that I am sorry and will go back to reading the other good posts on this forum.

^^ Interesting post.
I think you nailed it on the head.... No one is saying the 5.0 is junk.... I think people simply highlight that its powerband is too high for heavy truck-type use --which you point out in your post above saying its "soggy" on the bottom end.
FWIW... i was torn too and originaly went in to buy a 5.0 FX4 but the EB test drive swayed me so much that i ended up buying an FX4 EB 60 miles away because local dealer didnt have any FX4s and, like you, that was my only MUST.

You.hit the nail on the head for me, personally.
I can't stand the weak bottom end of most OHC engines. Trucks should do all their work at low rpms.
The EB is very good at working like a diesel without the costs.
The coyote is a fine engine. In a Mustang...
The venerable old 300 CID ford truck engine was also superb in this regard. A straight 6 never felt so good.

As an EcoBoost owner I can say that I love my truck in every aspect. With that said, if it were a 5.0, I would love it the same I am pretty sure the last time I cut myself my blood was blue. I bought the EB engine for no other reason than it offered bigger v-8 performance with small V-8 gas mileage and to me it aw a cool idea. I like gadgets and creative solutions in mechanics. I am not going to pretend that I expect to get the mileage posted on the window sticker? No one drives all interstate miles and besides, stoplights and traffic are inevitable. As many posters have already stated, towing loads at the 11,000 lbs range are possible but really better suited for the Super Duty trucks.
Drive two trucks of the same body and trim with only the engines being different and see which one you like best. The truck will be yours to drive and caddy remarks by those who can't get past their egos and hang ups shouldn't bear weight on your decision. The tranny issues with the 2011 EcoBoost seems to be gone from the 2012 and I can't speak to the oil consumption problems of the 5.0 that a lot of posters have touted.
And the 5.4 was a good engine in its latter years, but technology and progress has pushed Ford beyond those power plants. I still find it funny that the two competing American truck manufacturers are continuing to utilize pushrod technology in their engines.
