Dual exhaust setup without catback system?

You tried a different muffler shop? Sounds like the one you went to is either incompetent or incapable of doing it. I know I've seen plenty of these trucks running around with duals that were custom made in my area.

Yeah, I am now looking into that option, I've been reading a lot of exhaust threads on here tonight and my guess is that this shop was trying to gain some extra sales or didn't really want to deal with it. I don't know much in the way of exhaust systems so its nice to have this forum to be able to get advice from impartial people who do. I found a few other shops around town and will call on it more. I refuse to believe that its that big of an issue when I am reading about guys with the same setup I am after and are only paying $200-$400 for the install.

I just recently installed a Borla S type on my truck, to replace a different aftermarket system I was never happy with. The whole process took me over a year, to find the just right thing for me.
I was at many exhaust shops, to have a complete system done. The only thing I'd have any of them do, was just try different combinations of mufflers/resonators, on the 3" stainless pipes I already had on there. Not a single shop I visited could bend pipe to my liking, let alone the quality of pipe I wanted, stainless 304, or at the least 409. No aluminized pipe on any of my trucks. I specifically asked to see some of their bends. Yep, every single shop had made kinks, gouges, and flat spots, not my idea of quality. And they all told me they'd build anything I wanted, all in the 2-300$ range.
So, what I should have done from the start, I went to my guys at the dealer, yes my dealer has guys that like to mod our trucks. Borla was the first thing that came to mind, but, if I "really" wanted a full custom job, to go to a shop down the road. I did, and Borla was the first thing out of his mouth as well.
If you're anything like me, quality is job one. Unless you can find a shop that can mandrel bend 304/409, you're better off buying the complete system from Borla, since that's the brand you mention.
Pretty sure others like Solo or Stainless works are top quality as well, but you asked about Borla. Do yourself some avoiding second guessing, and get the Borla complete system, you'll be avoiding disappointment, and know you've got a topnotch system, that fits like factory.
Ford also offers a system that looks a lot like the Borla, and might even be made by them, at a bit more cost. That system comes with Ford branded tips, where the Borla says Borla.
The S system now uses the ATAK muffler, with a resonator installed between the Y pipe and muffler. If it's not loud enough, you can replace the resonator with their mid pipe, and you've got the ATAK system. Or, you could experiment with different size resonators, until you get the sound you're looking for.
Sorry for the litany, just my thoughts.

I think you need a different muffler shop, 2 - 3 hundred may not cover it though, sounds like you had some lazy guys, a good muffler shop has guys that enjoy the challenges of custom systems, do so more shopping around

Big Blue Flame!!!
Just keep shopping around. I take it you want duals straight out the back? When I do my exhaust set up I wantvthem to exit behind the rear wheels and tips on a angle downwards. But I'm also happy to go with the AFE Catback exhaust system (I like that one the best)

Seeburg Muffler in North Kansas City. Does your choice of Flowmaster or Magnaflow muffler and dual exhaust for 275 out the door every day. That muffler shop you went to sounds like they are really trying to screw you
