Door handle question
Hi everyone,
I am looking at buying oxford white handles to replace my black/chrome ones, and was curious if anyone knew if I could actually remove the lever part(how I open the door from the outside) from the base? This would allow me to buy the handles with oxford white bases and then just have a paint shop paint the levers for me.
If they can be removed, how difficult is it and is it worth it to try to go this route or to just buy the cheaper PTMd door handles and then have a shop paint the entire thing? A quote I got awhile back stated around 1 hour per painted door handle which means it'll cost around $60 per handle to be painted, if I got the entire thing painted.
Thanks in advance!

I did just the opposite - I had PTM handles (levers) and buckets (the surround piece). I wanted to add chrome handles. I got a set of chrome handles that had black textured buckets, so I did exactly what you want to do and removed the handles from the black buckets, then installed them in my original PTM buckets.
I did a DIY info thread about it 20 months ago, and maybe you're the first person that will actually use it!!
