Default Do you really have shifting problems or....

I've noticed several posts lately of people joining in the me too of transmission problems. One symptom that keeps popping up is : they noticed that the transmission downshifts and the gear display stays put, not indicating the shift.
Answer : that is the torque converter unlocking and the transmission has not downshifted. For a demo of this feature drive in 6th gear in D at 45mph up a slight grade, slowly give a little gas until the revs jump up but the indicator stays in 6th. That is the torque converter doing its job. Get your speed up over 50mph and now it will shift down into 5th instead of using the torque converter in 6th.
You can manually put it into 5th below 50mph to see the difference.
These symptoms are normal, good, and more efficient than the sporty feel of the tow haul mode.
You have many options with these transmissions. Try to understand them before jumping on the "I have a problem and am going to the dealer " bandwagon.

Not to minimize genuine issues many posters are having.
