Default Do I need tow mirrors to tow a camper?

I am looking at something along these lines:

A curved front type, either 24-26 feet. Would I need to see about replacing the existing mirrors on a 2010 Lariat (the heated mirrors that don't powerfold), or would the existing mirrors be able to swing this?

Would tow mirror be better, yes. Will the standard mirrors work yes. I debated this option so many times. I just am not totally fond of the big ear look all the time. I tow a 16 foot utility trailer once a week around town mowing and a 28 foot camper 6 or 7 times a year to the lake about a 30 miles trip one way. I have no problems seeing or backing either with my standard mirrors. Tow mirrors might help a little more but for as much as I would use them towing I decided not too. With tow mirrors, drive thru's or pulling up to the window at the bank some people have to pull their mirror in. Not worth the effort but I have not used both. Came down to looks for me , just my 2 cents

You could always buy the **** slip on models if you really think it might be usefull. No Dumbo look when you are not towing

We will be picking up our new to us 24' Fleetwood Saturday over an hour away and with a slight detour, I know where there is a set of used **** for sale.

i bought one of these for when i pull my camper.

just a cheapo option to get me by until i get the ****'s or towing mirrors. you will need something, you wont be able to back the camper up well without some sort of towing mirror, plus its nice to see when cars are behind you.

I just hit Amazon and ordered a pair of **** 11800s. Amazon states that they do not fit the '09-'011 ones, but both ****'s website (as stated above), as well as consumer reviews state that they do work and work well.

Thank you for the recommendation, because my towing mirror problem is now solved. You guys rock.

If memory serves, the 11800s need a shim or something that may not be included if you have old stock. Wait while I search around the site....

Aha, found it.
It was a link in this thread

That takes you here

He had mirrors that fit an 07 (same poart # you ordered) and wanted to use the same ones. As you can see from one of the first few pics, the difference in the shim

That is something I checked on -- they ship with both sets of shims as mentioned above, because of the above problems the guy had. Thanks for mentioning that because it could definitely end up a gotcha.

I have a 23 ft camper and pulled it a few times with the regular mirrors. Upgraded last summer to the tow mirrors and really like them. It is MUCH easier. I found I like them for non towing as well (SCREW with 6.5=long truck)

No opinion on the **** mirrors-never used them.

I do like the dumbo look myself

I hope you didn't take offense to what I said. Some don't mind them and they probably are great if you tow a lot. I see them all the time around town on daily drivers like mine is but I am not a fan. The small ones are big enough for everyday stuff for me. When I see them on the F150s I think the truck is trying to say "I wanna be a Super Duty when I grow up"
