Bead blasting is a process exactly like sand blasting, but the use of tiny plastic beads are used instead of sand. Not as harsh of a media. Sandblasting would destroy the grille itself by cutting thru, pitting the plastic or cutting large holes in the grille. If you painted directly over chrome, it will soon start to peel. Good luck!

Do you mind taking a picture farther away from the front? I would like to see how it looks at a distance.

Looks great though man!

I paint for a living so I had someone at the shop sandblast the bumpers then refinished them. The grille I painted over the chrome and its going through its second Canadian winter (lots if snow ice sand and salt) and no problems at all. It's all about prep and the proper adhesion promoter and sealer.

Painters unite! I have a video of me scraping at chrome i painted, had to abuse it to get it to peel. Just painted a chrome grille last night. Gonna post up the process in another thread (not going to start a new one).

Any thoughts?
I like both looks! But it's always nice to see how people personalize their vehicles. It's the little touches that set them apart.

The painted grill looks flawless. Your buddy does wonderful work!
