I installed a Deezee tailgate assist on my truck this summer and on the following day the tailgate fell on my hands the first time I opened it. I called in the vendor I bought from and explained that I read a few times the instructions to install it right and only advanced when understood the up and down positions of the cylinder, etc, but realized I broke the clips while locking the cylinder in place. In the instructions there's no warning about the clips, so I did it by ignorance and assumed the error.
The vendor gave me Deezee's customer line number and asked to let them know if nothing was accomplished, but Deezee's representative gave me a break from my fault and sent the parts for free (even shipping to Canada!), thanking for buying their product.

Needless to say that I removed the clips and locked them in place when the cylinder was in position, as it should have been done the first time and Deezee and the vendor gained my business!

Check both clips on your cylinder and call Deezee for new ones. When they are forced in it snaps the little edge that holds everything locked. Good luck!
