I never called anyone bad that I can find, not sure where you get that. I also am a firm believer in the free market and charge what you think you can get within reason. With that said when you know the email from Ford.com doesn't just go to you it might behoove yourself to at least try to get the sale or that buyer in your dealership to work your magic. Just because "there's a sucker born everyday" does not mean you should treat everyone like one (many dealerships do, not all). I honestly wasn't even going to buy a new truck, I loved my old one and was just testing the waters and seeing what was out there after hearing about the Ecoboost and towing. I sent the email as I felt it was less of a waste of my and the dealerships time if I didn't buy. I got a call and an offer that was so good it pushed me to write the check as opposed to staying on the fence.

With that said go ahead and try to charge the "acceptable" $1000 paperwork fee and see how that goes here in Texas. What people find acceptable in other states amazes me at times it truly does. Sounds like the "frog in the pot" saying is alive and well.

You are not entitled to a low price. If you can get a low price, good on you. Sometimes getting the lowest price means buying from a dealer that you don't like. With that there might be consequences, however intangible.

I fenced in my back yard a few months ago. Where I live is all rocks underground, so I really didn't want to do it myself. Since the fence style was regulated by the HOA, I had to spend more than I really wanted to. Because of this, I went with the lowest bidder, knowing that I wasn't going to get the service, time table, and install quality, of the most reputable company that gave me a quote. I was ok with this, because I just simply didn't have the money to spend to hire the best. That's life sometimes.

Back to the Processing fee:

You guys think car dealers are bad, I hope you never have to plan/pay for a funeral.

When my dad passed away, I went to the funeral home that my family has used for 100 years. The first line of the contract was "Funeral Directors fee (non-negotiable, non-refundable) - $3500." Under that, was the actual cost of the funeral and everything that went along with it, including taxes, fees, etc. It wasn't even as if they reduced the price of everything else, flowers were still $750 per arrangement, $900 transport costs, $1500 casket (cheapest one by the way), and on and on.

Was I pissed? Not really. I wasn't happy about paying it, but I couldn't exactly just take dad and walk out, and I certainly didn't have the time to sit there and moan about it. It's their business, they have bills to pay too.

They would show the MSRP and then added adjusted area price with and extra 1500 on top of MSRP. I talked to one sales person and told them I would never pay MSRP, but he said you would be suprised on how many people do, and that extra adjusted price was a way to negotiate to MSRP. What a rip off.

I would love to have a new EB with the max tow, since mine came with a 26 gallon tank, and not the 7 bolt axles, but don't know what to do.
So....... a customer comes to the dealership of their own free will, picks a truck they like, get's told the price, agree's to the price, signs a stack of paperwork confirming everything under the sun, then drives off in their brand new truck? Where is the "Rip off?" Where was the customer wronged? How was the customer forced to purchase a vehicle against their will?

Do you drive to every gas station that has a higher price than the lowest around and tell the owner that he is ripping people off?

Again, RIF, I don't work in sales.

You'd probably have a stroke if you saw how much houses cost up here too. I don't know where you live, but I have a buddy in Dallas that lives in a comparable house to mine, that cost exactly 1/5 of what mine did...... and I got a deal.

Ok I got pulled back in!! All the "stealership" bs, and this thread should have come about way before now. THE ONLY WAY TO ACTUALLY GET SCREWED IS IF YOU WERE LIED TO IN ORDER TO MAKE MORE MONEY..... Otherwise, if you signed the paperwork, and left with the vehicle, you got a deal you could live with. It is completely up to YOU to pay what you feel something is worth, period. If you paid $1000 more than your buddy, that does not mean you got screwed, it just means he negotiated better, or found a place willing to sell the product for less. If you think the price is a rip-off, keep shopping. This all comes back to the entitlement crap this whole country has right now, no one takes responsibility for what they do. Its always someone else that screwed them. If you didn't research, read over the paperwork, or take the time to shop around, then how is it always the dealer trying to screw you??? A bunch of you should go put your Obama signs back in your yards and see what happens....

My mother (the master negotiator of the family) usually dodges the fees by researching and then giving the dealer an "out the door" offer, meaning she wants it at X price including all fees and what not. Works out well for her. She haggled me a great deal on my 2012! Thanks mom!
