I have the Nav screen and the back-up camera is awsome. You can back into any spot with no problem. It will zoom to help you hook up a trailer. The small one on the rearview mirror will keep you from hitting things but that about all.

Rear sensors and good mirrors will produce just as well.

Just my opinion.

They didn't exactly pull a fast one on you. Before I placed my order I very carefully went over the specs to make sure the truck was exactly the way I wanted. They also made me sign it to confirm the specs are correct.

$675 isn't that bad and in my opinion worth it. My backup camera was a $400 option from factory. That's $275 in labour they are charging. Seems about right.

I have it already on the navi screen and I love it also. If they will install it for 650 I'd also do it, unless you can find and make sure you have the appropriate harnesses to make this happen, if you do I'd do it my self if not let ford tear your truck apart to do it, least that way they are responsible for it if something goes wrong. If you want to upgrade your head unit you might want to do it yourself, you can still use ford camera and wire it to your new navi screen an get a much bigger image over the mirror one. I'm pretty sure there's threads on here that explain what wires on the camera do what do you can wire the camera to an aftermarket head unit.

Now, if you buy any of these cameras you can then use the extra money to buy this aftermarket Nav unit

Bear with me... I use crutchfield.com for a lot of my research on car audio, et al. When I look up this unit, it says it's no longer available. However, the bigger issue is it's a non-nav unit. There is a newer model that goes for around $499 but to get nav, you have to add another unit which costs an additional $399. Add custom interfaces to integrate with steering wheel controls, etc. and you're in the money. You also have to have to buy a dash adapter to accommodate this radio. By the time I was done fooling around, I was at $1400. That's a far cry from $400 that's cited on Amazon.

I like the idea but it will be a while before I can budget for an upgrade like this.

yeah, i noticed that also after i looked at the headunit....BUT for still under the $700 the dealer will charge you to put in a rear view mirror ( which you already have one in the truck..not like your getting anything diffrent, except a small monitor in it) you can put in a DVD playing, Ipod controling, much better sounding stereo AND a back up camera.
The dash lit is $40, and you dont NEED the wring harness...but it does makes things easier.

i'd love to see this dealer the OP is talking about install an OEM camera, rear view monitor AND the entire correct wiring harness for $700. There is going to be a catch somewhere....like they are going to say....oh we thought you had the NAV unit already.

I used to sell cars for about a year in my early twenties. That job sucked but the things I learned have become invaluable whenever I buy a vehicle now...most of my friends bring me when they buy theirs also. You have to read that paperwork and dont be afraid to walk if you even smell something is fishy with the deal.

Long story short, to get the deal done and the price i wanted they removed the camera from the deal. The sales person claims they told me, but I honestly don't recall him saying they took it out. So here's my question...is it cheaper and better to have them do it at the $675 and have full factory warranty or attempt to do it myself.

Edit: They said the one they would install is the one that is intergrated into the rear view mirror. Looks like a lot of people have gone this route on the 2009-11's but I can't tell if they have done it yet on the 12's and if the parts are the same.
Tell them to shove it! Not worth the price they ask. I bought mine through Costco. I paid about 300 dollars for 2 cameras and and a 7 inch color screen. On top of that, me and my buddy installed it in about 3 hours, mostly it took the time to do is to route the cables front and back of my truck. It is infrared... no exterior light needed to see in the dark. I can view the cameras by toggling via through my monitor, can turn on the sound if needed or record (optional)... so many options. I may get a third camera installed once I get my trailer.

The cameras are industrial quality, no cheapie crap cameras you get from the auto parts store.

The camera system is called Safety View: http://www.rearviewsafety.com/pickup...a-systems.html

Good luck bud.

Yes, I agree. I still like this idea so it may be a mod down the road for me. First, I have to get the truck and the wait is worse than counting days until you get out of the service!

I have this same camera set on my current truck and trailer and it works great. It was $269 and all I added extra was a trailer quick disconnect kit ($89) and a license plate mount for the truck. WIth that 7" monitor, you can line up the hitch to within 1/4" without ever stepping out of the truck. I love it!
