Default dealer pulled a fast one on me

During the whole time we were working the deal I made it a point to have them add in the backup camera. They claimed it was $675 installed and comes with the ford factory warranty. Long story short, to get the deal done and the price i wanted they removed the camera from the deal. The sales person claims they told me, but I honestly don't recall him saying they took it out. So here's my question...is it cheaper and better to have them do it at the $675 and have full factory warranty or attempt to do it myself.

Edit: They said the one they would install is the one that is intergrated into the rear view mirror. Looks like a lot of people have gone this route on the 2009-11's but I can't tell if they have done it yet on the 12's and if the parts are the same.

Go aftermarket for much cheaper, or have them do it. You can read the 60+ page thread, of which you will see my posts many times, and I have YET to see a thing from that camera on my tailgate!

I would have the dealer install the factory one. It's a sweet system and you'll get the factory warranty with it, no brainer IMO. Only thing I would do is haggle on the price with them. I've seen them do it for around $500. I'm guess you already signed the deal for the truck? Sucks if you did, I would have looked it over in detail especially when you asked for something to be added.

you can do an aftermarket one yourself a couple of times for 700 bucks I think. That said, my truck came with it and I love it.

*Most* dealers are crazy over priced when it comes to stuff like that, I prefer aftermarket do it yourself..

I remember when I bought my truck they were trying to up sell everything from running boards, different wheels, to the stereo system...

Whats a good aftermarket camera? My step-father put one on his truck and its a POS, stuff looks further away than it is. I'm looking to put one on my truck, but I'm afraid to buy the wrong one.

I'm looking for something clean with no monitors hanging any where. I was looking at the one that requires me to change the rear view mirror and the tailgate emblem. I'm sure there are other things that need to be replaced, but I'm on my phone and don't want to type out everything. My biggest thing the part numbers. Doing the labor myself isn't a problem.

$650 for the factory camera installed, and my dealer wants $975 for the folding bed extender. I think they are trying to pull a fast one on you again. seems a simple piece of plastic would cost much less then a camera system. Just my thoughts. I would make them show you all the parts before they install it, there's a good chance it may not be ford products

Question for you..what kind of radio do you have in that truck?? the standard one?? non-nav?

For $695 you can do it yourself ...break 5 of the cameras...and still be $100 ahead of what the dealer would charge you!! so factory warranty for the camera? its not worth it...in essence your paying $600 for that warranty on jsut a camera.

Now...IF you decided not to go factory.....you can get backup camera's for like $30...i got two of them, one for my commuter car...and one for my wifes truck...and they have been fine for 5+ years....and at that price..if it does break...damn..i'd just buy another to replace it
