DBS Bug Screen installed...pics

RDFTS,
Absolutely make your own, using the instructions in this thread. I modified mine by using strips of wood lattice at the top and bottom to help keep its shape. A roll of screening was $6 at Home Depot and the bungies were a couple bucks. I folded the screen around the lattice strips and put a pop rivet in each corner to hold it. Couldn't be easier, took half an hour and 3000 miles later, still perfect (except it's got a few bugs in it). Plus, I have enough material left over to make one for my other vehicle.

Here is a quick shot from my phone. This is after a 2300 mile trip through the American West. Looks like it works so well that I should remove it and clean it.
My thanks to FiveOhFuzzF150 for his ideas and directions to make this thing.

Smitty,
The window screen is strong enough for bugs so far. You can see a good sized bug got caught over on the pass side in my pic. For rocks, I don't know. I used aluminum window screen because it seemed to be a bit stronger than fiberglass. But if you hit it hard enough, the projectile could either poke through or just carry the whole thing with it until it hit something solid. If you want it stronger, you could back the screen with a layer of hardware cloth, maybe 1/4 inch mesh. If mine gets beat up too bad, I might do that.

Thanks Shovel......I'm still waiting on my truck. Just reading all the posts and writing down all the customizing that I am going to do to the truck when and if I ever get it. Just debating wether spend the few bucks and do it myself or if I just over pay and have it shipped. Its my first Ford and my first F150 and I plan on keeping it for along time
