A switch is a switch, and the Omron will do just fine. In fact, I will not pay for another OEM that lasted not even 3 years/ 75,000 Km. There is no intelligence built into a switch, it is the same as a wall switch. I do not know what ecoboostking1987 is talking about testing on the multimeter... It is either Open or Closed.
You can't blow fuses if you pay attention to what you are doing. In drive mode, the switch is using the Black+Red combination, called NC (Normally Closed). This is the default state of the switch.
When you place it in Park, the switch disconnects the Red, and connects Black+Blue. This is the combination that is NO (Normally Open) and activates only when the shifter pushes the little button in.
Until receiving the Omron switch, cutting the wires of the old switch and connecting Black+Blue overnight in Park, and Black+Red for all other times is an option.

Can anyone tell me where to find the install instructions? I bought the Omron and it didn't come with instructions. Thanks in advance.

A bit late to the game, there is a youtube video describing how to diagnose and the second half is the installation. It's pretty straightforward, no screws to remove its all clips. Just apply the parking brake (to make sure u don't roll away) turn the key too on without starting, put the vehicle in drive and pull up on the edge of the console to unclip the plastic housing around the shifter

BTW, the kits are 26.00 with priority mail shipping included.

Default Help for Part Number or Name

This same thing just happened with my 2016 Ford Expedition. Do you know the part number or will the same shown in the video for the F150 work with my Expedition?

I've pulled apart a few different Ford models of those years but not the Expedition. It seems they all use a switch if some sort for the purpose, most have a lever to avoid direct contact with the plunger and I'd assume the Expedition is not the same as the F150 as we'd probably hear of more incidents on message boards.
So after all my typing (sorry, too much coffee) the short answer is , I don't know. You'd have to open the console to see if the switch is the problem and if it can be cross referenced for a replacement.

Thank you, I’ll keep trying to research it. If I figure it out I’ll post here.

Talked to my friend who works for Ford and he let me know they changed the external shifting switch to internal now which is actually part of the shifter. He believes they made the change in 2015 on both F150's and Expeditions. That SUCKS.. May have to buy a whole new shifter. Anyways, thought I would let you know.
