Please keep us informed on how you go about the different fuel tank. I too will be looking for a larger tank at some point. Makes no sense to me why Ford gave it's highest tow rated vehicle, such a small tank

So it did it to me another way today.
Coasting down a bike park mountain with 100km on the DTE and needle pointing just under 1/4. Then the needle plunges to E and the DTE drops to 80km left. The dreaded countdown began with DTE losing 1km every 200 meters I travelled WHILE COASTING DOWNHILL AND INSTANT FUEL GAUGE SHOWING NO FUEL BEING USED. It was in fuel shutoff mode for several kms.
So I dive into the nearest pump and put 84 liters into my 98 liter tank. Fuel used on trip meter indicates I used 81 liters since last fill.
So who can tell me how much fuel is used before truck quits. I will have to go by the fuel used recording and calculate my DTE with how much I have left before engine runs dry.
Of coarse any remote start idling will throw that method out of wack. What's a guy to do?
Inconsistent is the worst case scenerio.

I had about 5 gallons of fuel in the garage so I poured it all in, waited a bit, and still nothing. Finally it dawned on my that everything must be near the back of the fuel tank and all my fuel was sitting up front (36 gal). So I put it in neutral coasted down to the bottom of their lot where it was level and it started right up! lol
One thing to keep in mind, even the "little" tank is enormous. A significant incline can fool the fuel gague (even if its working right) or lead to fuel starvation. Again 1/4 tank is "empty" to me

Very stupid how the ecoboost comes with a small fuel tank. Even then 3.7 has a 36 gallon.

That experience has gotta suck! Good "play" with duramax guy! I've tried searching for larger aftermarket fuel tanks for my 5.4 litre FX4 but you won't find 'em for gasoline, only available for diesel. Federal law stipulates that extra large, aftermarket gasoline fuel tanks are prohibited. The logic behind that is, gasoline is quite flammable, combustible and explosive, whereas diesel is quite the opposite. I hope this helps.

I'd never trust the miles to E, but I do trust the Trip A/B menus, and litres used. Miles to E seems to have too many factors, and your driving for the next 50 miles may not be the same as your previous 300, so it will vary depending on the terrain.

When the gauge gets to a quarter, fill it up.

I usually fill my 36 gallon at half, just so my VISA debit card won't shut off at 75 bucks......
