Default Cutting into lower dash

Ok I'm going to be mounting switches shortly to the lower knee panel of the dash below the steering wheel. I need to cut a roughly 2x3" hole for the switch plate and was wondering what everyone had used if/when they cut into this thicker plastic? I don't have a Dremel, but I do have a multi tool which may work. Is it to thick for a razor knife?

You could probably do it with a razor knife or multitool, but I think you'd get cleaner (and easier) cuts with a dremel or something similar.

Just an option....instead of cutting that area...could you fab up a panel for the cubby hole and put your switches there? I've gotten 3 regular sized switches there...could have done 4 minis also

like this?

Thanks but that chubby contains my brake controller so that's not an option. I bought 3 switch blanks that I can stick in the panel when I go to sell later on so it's not as bad.

Have you taken that panel off yet? its been a while since i did mine and cant remember if there was a metal bracket panel right behind it...it would be a pain to have to cut thru both

If you're taking about the lower knee panel there isn't metal above the hood latch and below the dimmer switch that I could feel. If you're referring to the passenger cubby then yes I believe you do have to cut metal to get three switches to fit

Correct. No metal below the headlight and dimmer switch. There is a metal plate directly behind the knee bolster under the steering column. Incorrect on the metal trimming behind the passenger cubby. I fit all 4 upfitter switches there with no metal trimming and only very minor plastic trimming. You could easily fit 3 or 4 regular switches there with little or no trimming at all.

Check out Kustomfx. He makes switch panels to go in the headliner by the sunglass holder and one that goes in the passenger side cubby.
