PM'ing you. I got it from a guy on eBay. I specifically asked for it to have the storage area. Due to the carpet, nothing rattles (at least nothing yet and I've got a hitch ball, some small tools, staps and a Nintendo DS in it.

A $2K+ stereo system is just as easy to steal out of a Yugo than a F150. I'm not worried about the truck, I'm worried what is inside of it. So before you ask why I don't get an alarm system - those don't work when they only need 5 min to steal whatever they want, smash & grab is the theme these days. I had a 1984 Citation, rusted out rear panels but guess what, they ripped out my $120 clarion hu though didn't bother with the speakers.

What i meant was , dont buy ANYTHING nice then, b/c someone will steal it. Why buy an nice new F150? I could steal one in 3 mins ( a pro could do it in much less) Why buy nice wheels for your truck? Someone could steal those easily especially since they are on the OUTSIDE of the truck. If ppl followed your theory of not getting something b/c of the fear of somone stealing it, youd be walking around with nothing. would it suck if your new stereo was stolen, sure, but thats what Comprehensive insurance is for, and if you have nice stuff, like i did in my show car, get a $50 deductable for your comprehensive insurance otherwise drive aorund in a yugo with no stereo , no wheels, etc , and im sure NO one would wana steal anything from you

i used the RF 3sixty.1 as my sound processor to keep the factory head unit. I wanted to keep the factory one because i like the look of it, how the buttons are cut and come in through the dash. No matter how hard you try, an aftermarket HU will never look like it came with the truck or really 'belongs' with the rest of the feel, some like that, some don't. And i can totally agree with the guy about the stealing as well. I drove a toyota supra for a long time, it was a really nice car, all fixed up, and never had a problem with anyone EVER messing with it, since it was mostly a track car, looked good on outside, was pretty plain on inside, had factory stuff in it. Got a nice Alpine stereo for it, 2 months later, while it was parked at work where i always park it, someone busted the window, tore the stereo out of my dash (which also broke the dash to pieces). Did i not go aftermarket HU because i didn't want it to get messed with? No, i did it because i like the way the factory one looks, simple as that.

I will be trying mine with out the sound processer first but its nice to have that option. I agree with what your saying and can even see timelessR1 point, but at the end of the day my HU is the same as Lmac83's. To change all that I believe would really take away from the look of my dash. One of the reasons I bought my Ford was how nice the interior was. Not ready to hack up the dash.

Thanks again for your posts, really good information.

Id go aftermarket headunit but then I have an FX2 with a specific design on the HVAC trim and it would cost money to have it custom overlayed to match. It pretty much defeats the money savings.

Well it's for the most part complete. Just need to clean up a few wires today. I did keep the stock HU. Upgraded all 4 speakers Kenwood KFC-5708C and add 2 Kicker Subs CVT-10 and amp Kenwood KAC-8105D. The box is from supercrewsound.com. IMO if leaves a very clean install. I can if need be still raise my rear seat for storage on rainy days.

All the information I got for this system was from this forum. And a big thanks to compCoder for posting all his pix. Made my install very easy!

This system will not win any awards. But compared to what I started with, the sound is 100 times better!
