Default Cruising RPM 5.4

Just a quick question for the 5.4 guys. When you're cruising around town, say 50kmh (35mph) what do you see your tach at?

The reason I ask is that mine always likes to hover around that 900-1100 mark- which to me seems like (and sounds like) its lugging. With 3.55's I would expect it to sit a bit higher unless the shift map is intentionally trying to keep it that low.

Thoughts?

My 2010 5.4 with 3.55 gearing runs the same. It seems to want to get into 6th pretty quick. At 35mph I'm at 1100 rpm, at 45mph I'm at 1200 and at 55mph I'm around 1500,

Ok, thanks guys! What you've posted is right in line with mine, so I guess it's by design.

Sorry for the late reply, Smurfs, but on the way home last night mine was pretty much following this. Looks like others already helped you out though. One thing however, you stated that your's sounds like it's lugging. Mine sounds fine. Not sure if you have an issue there or not.

I'm thinking the lugging sound/ feeling is accentuated by the exhaust. That's going to be my guess. Thanks for posting back!

Mine will shift to 6th pretty quickly and always feels like it is lugging at 1000rpm even with stock exhaust.I have 3.73 and will lock out six at low speeds.

It's normal. My 5.4 is the same. It's a traditional truck V8, it makes all it's power right off idle. This thing idles at ~500 RPM!

Mine was also like that stock, with the SCT tune now it shifts much better IMO and does not search for gears as much while climbing hills (leaves torque converter locked in longer than stock tune, utilizing more available torque per gear)
