The vinyl lid on my ‘14 Supercrew 5.0 with the console shifter is starting to crack from wear. I’ve ordered and received a new leather cover and I looked online on how to replace just the cover. My GoogleFu must be weak, as I didn’t find what I wanted. I did see that a steamer would help, but I don’t have one.
See below what it looks like now. Any way to install it without a pneumatic upholstery staple gun? Would an electric stapler work? The new cover doesn’t have a foam layer. Can I leave the old on as a cushion...or would that lead to problems? Would you just start in the center and work my out with clamps, with contact cement on the sides only?
Lots of questions, but I didn’t want to bugger it up experimenting.
Anyone replace the cover or have a link?
Thanks

Update. I was searching the wrong name. Lowe’s had a 1/4” air stapler for $35 or so. I left the old skin on, as I couldn’t find a store with thin foam. Anyway, it’s done and we’ll see how it holds up.
