Considering Purchasing a 2010 f150
Hello all
I joined this forum when I had my 05 f150 lariat. I ended up selling it due to cam phasers and other miscellanious trans and motor probst, but now I'm wanting an f150 again.
I'm looking at a 2010 SCrew XLT 4x4 with the 5.4 in it at 80k miles... The price on it is right where I need to be, before I go and look/talk to the dealer does anyone have anything to look for?
Whats the maintence/upkeep on these pickups at 80k miles?
How hard is it to install a factory mirror and emblem backup camera on a 2010?
Would appreciate any input/concerns/comments! Thanks all!

Retired and loving it!
If the plugs have not been changed, make sure you include that as part of any deal. I think that they are still two piece plugs on the 2010, and they can be problematic to change if they've been in there the whole time.

I am just posting this based on my personal experience, but I own and 2010 Lariat 4x4 Crew with 5.4 with 90,000 miles and it is the best truck I have ever owned. I have not had one problem with it (I hope I didn't just jinx myself). I would think at that mileage you can assume a transmission flush, new plugs, radiator flush, etc. Beyond that you should be good to go.

The 2010 has a lot of improvements over your 2005. Updated single piece plugs started in 2008 so your 2010 has no concerns with those. newer phasers, solenoids and other parts will also be in there, not that those can't be bad in an under-maintained used truck. A 6 speed transmission and electric fans are also in there.
I would take it for a drive, get the engine oil up to temperature and then stop beside a building. Open your window and give it a bit of gentle throttle (in gear, with the brakes on or off). If you hear diesel-like clattering, move on to something else as this is an indicator of current or upcoming phaser issues. Make sure it shifts cleanly and if everything else checks out, make an offer.

I think my main worry here is I bought my 2005 in 2010 with 80k on it. I had so many problems by 88k miles(transfer case, front axles, going into 4x4 without the dial turning, phaser tick, about 10mpg on stock tires, alternator went out at 95k...etc)
I'm hoping the re-design since 2009 has vastly improved the 5.4 and the truck itself.
I need a truck that can tow my bass boat, a trailer with a SxS and atvs. And when not towing doesn't kill me on mpg
I am also a big do-it-yourself repair thing. I don't mind changing the plugs or oil in the diff or taking it somewhere for the transmission flush(i dont touch transmissions). I've done that on just about everything ive owned. I'm just looking for any issues people have had around 80k, and if it could last me another 80k
Thanks for all the comments so far! Keep them coming!

We have a video that shows how to install the mirror and emblem camera kit on your truck so you can see what you are up against for that part at least. Come see us if you end up purchasing the truck and we'll get you set up with the camera!
Good luck with the purchase of your new truck!

The 2010 Supercrew Lariat that I had, I could never get the transmission to shift correctly. Flashed three times at the dealer. Driveshaft had a bump at takeoff and stop. Kickdown acceleration was awful. I got so tired of it that I traded the truck in. My 2009 isn't plagued by any of these, oddly enough, although it does sound like my cam phasers have some wear on them. Not that any of this should discourage you from a 2010 as opposed to another year as they were all largely the same, but just sharing my experience. Good luck with the purchase!
