Common ticking sound 5.4 3V 2009 F150
https://streamable.com/7tbodk <- video of my ticking sound left side first and right side after
According to common knowledge from youtube, this forum and also the post made by s_vares here he claims that the ticking sounds comes from these.
i agree. I am attaching a video here which is recorded today . i have the sounds it seems the left side is bit more louder than the right. is this normal? the truck has been getting regular oil changes forever 5W-20 (i know 5W-30 is recommended)
i am concerned because i dont want a large repair bill or something or have to spend more. i read through the s_vares post of course he offers great cheaper solutions.
do you guys think its time to get rid of my truck and get something else or is the sound here normal and still driveable? i have 134k miles thus far.
"Reasons you get a 5.4 Tick
(other than normal injector noise)
-Bad Phasers
-Bad chains or guides
-Low oil pressure to phasers (most often the failing tesioners!!)
-Failing tesioners not putting proper tension on chain
-valve train problems (sticking lash adjuster, bad roller rocker, broken valve spring)"

It boils down to spending about 2-3k on your truck or spending 40k+ on a new one?
If you like the truck and everything else is in great shape, I'd fix it. Admittedly, being in retirement I'm not about to blow a bunch of money on a new truck that I drive 2k miles a year.
