Coin holder to 12v output
Have any of the 2WD guys changed out that ridiculous change holder on the dash to another 12v plug?
I don't know how much I would use it, but it would look a thousand times better IMO. |
I havent seen any but Im gonna put my volt meter there.

This is a good idea, i am pretty sure there is an electrical wire already connected to the back of the change holder for this purpose...Not certain though
|
The cable hooked to the back of it is for the 4WD selector.
Unsure if it would support a 12v power supply... But I know nothing about electricity other than flipping the little switch up turns the lights on. |
Should not be to had. Just order a replacement outlet so it matches the other then hook up a 12 volt source to it. Only challenge i can see it the factory plug on the back of the outlet, not sure if you can order one of those or not, but I am sure there is a way to get around it.

There's lots of threads about what to do with the stupid coin holder. I myself wasted some money and put in a 4x4 switch. It doesn't do anything but light up, but it looks a lot better.
Most folks it seems have used that spot for a voltmeter, I remember one guy was putting in a push button ignition switch. |
has anybody been able to confirm if the existing wire has enough voltage for a 12V? I would a actually like to put in a 2nd USB if possible
|
Abn150 - where did you get the 4x4 switch? I'd like to do the same. What is the part number and what did it cost? Thanks!
|
My 4x4 is a floor mount lever so it has that stupid coin slot there too. I dont see tolls more than once a year so it really serves no purpose. What other options is there for that spot?

Here's some pictures on how to do it: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/four-w...ive-mod-48005/ Uh, I don't mean to be condescending, but you DO realize that doing this WILL NOT make your truck a 4x4?? |
