Coin holder to 12v output

Have any of the 2WD guys changed out that ridiculous change holder on the dash to another 12v plug?

I don't know how much I would use it, but it would look a thousand times better IMO.

I havent seen any but Im gonna put my volt meter there.

This is a good idea, i am pretty sure there is an electrical wire already connected to the back of the change holder for this purpose...Not certain though

The cable hooked to the back of it is for the 4WD selector.
Unsure if it would support a 12v power supply...
But I know nothing about electricity other than flipping the little switch up turns the lights on.

Should not be to had. Just order a replacement outlet so it matches the other then hook up a 12 volt source to it. Only challenge i can see it the factory plug on the back of the outlet, not sure if you can order one of those or not, but I am sure there is a way to get around it.

There's lots of threads about what to do with the stupid coin holder. I myself wasted some money and put in a 4x4 switch. It doesn't do anything but light up, but it looks a lot better.

Most folks it seems have used that spot for a voltmeter, I remember one guy was putting in a push button ignition switch.

has anybody been able to confirm if the existing wire has enough voltage for a 12V? I would a actually like to put in a 2nd USB if possible

TruckRookie 02-06-2012 09:32 AM

Abn150 - where did you get the 4x4 switch? I'd like to do the same. What is the part number and what did it cost? Thanks!

My 4x4 is a floor mount lever so it has that stupid coin slot there too. I dont see tolls more than once a year so it really serves no purpose. What other options is there for that spot?

I got it from TASCA, cost $26.00. For the 2010 model the part # is: 9L3Z*14B166*AA.

Here's some pictures on how to do it:

Uh, I don't mean to be condescending, but you DO realize that doing this WILL NOT make your truck a 4x4??
