Default Clicking noise in dash....temp control

The clicking noise is coming from the dash and is related to the manual temp control when in the cold position. It happens when I start the truck up and if I have temp turned to the furthest cold position. It will cause a clicking noise for a few seconds then quits. Or I can turn the temp control **** up three clicks and it quits. Turn it back to cold position and it will click again, buy only for a few seconds. This all happens either with just vents or with AC on. It doesn't matter. Any thoughts?

one of the actuators that shifts airflow going bad? this happened with my mustang when you tried to cycle the vents, you would hear a popping/clicking noise.

Had the same issue with mine...had the whole dash removed by the dealership to have it fixed just over a year ago...damn sound is back again. Luckily it only cost me $100 because of my extended warranty...

Sounds like your temp blend door actuator is binding up. No it won't matter ac on or off, it performs the same function regardless. Also the blend door itself should be checked for free movement back and forth.

Is this something that can be fixed without dash removal?

Mine does the same thing. It's not an easy part to replace, and from what I understand it can come from 2 locations. One requires the removal of the nav screen *easy version* and the second in located deep within the dash *nightmare scenario*. The latter would bring at least a 1000 dollar bill from the dealer.

I will let mine click away. FWIW if you increase the temp on mine at start up the clicking stops sooner.

Happened to me. Although it was more of a "knocking" than a clicking. Dealer fixed it in a heartbeat. Been good to go for over a year.

Can you be more specific with your truck model year and I will look it up at work and give you a definite answer. Also is it dual climate control(driver and passenger controls) or just one for all.

2011 XLT with manual single climate control.

I can turn the temp control **** up 3 notches from the max cold position and the click goes away. Turn it back to max cold position and it will click several times, then it will eventually quit. Or turn the **** back up 3 notches and it will quit. So for now I leave it in the 3rd notch position. It doesn't seem to do it in any other position, even at max warm position. It just started doing this last week all of a sudden like.

Thanks.

You can access the blend door actuator by removing your radio and glovebox. Its the same blend door used for automatic systems too, they label it the RH SIDE actuator. If you had automatic a/c and the LH SIDE went bad then you have to pull the dash. I will attach a photo.
