Cimate control temp knob doesn't "work"???

Cimate control temp **** doesn't "work"???
2012 F-150 XLT 5.0 supercrew 4x4.
I have been dealing with the issue for about a year. It started acting up and I would turn the **** to heat and back to cool and it would "correct" itself. Over the year, the issue would be more common. I would have to turn the **** back and forth dozens of times and as time went on, it would require me to find a "sweet spot" to get the temp I was wanting. For instance, sometimes 3 clicks from max cool gave me cooler air. Same for heat. It was a hassle but "manageable"... Now, no matter what i do it's varying degrees of heat regardless of how much i mess with it. When cycling from dash, floor, defrost, or a blend the air comes out of the appropriate vents based on the selection. My question is, blend door? could it be the ****?potentiometer? ... Any other potential causes I'm not thinking of.
