Default Chrome Wheels my ***...

I just took delivery of my brand new 2011 Lariat Screw 4X4 with the 20" chrome "clad" wheels which were a somewhat pricey option. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my new truck but I just noticed that these "upgraded" wheels are fricking plastic hubcaps! Are you kidding me??? They are aluminum wheels with a plastic chrome piece attached to them (glued?). What a dissapointment!:cens ored:

Ask the dealership if they would be willing to exchange them with the regular alloy wheels and give you the balance in accessories or something....

Sorry that your not happy with your wheels but you should have possibly done more research, that has been all over the forums for quite some time.

I found this forum just after I bought the truck last week. I had done research on the obvious things like the ecoboost motor, but why would someone think to research wheels? Since when did manufacturers go back to using hubcaps for their "premium" wheels? I have bought a lot of cars in my day and they have all either been real wheels or hubcaps. I have never seen a "hybrdid" like this before. Never would have thought to research it...

If you want to be technical "Chrome Clad" means clad with "Chrome". It should say chrome "colored" clad or Plastic Chrome Clad... Just sayin...

The grammer involved here has to do with the fact that the word "chrome" when referring to automobiles is defined as "to plate metal with a compound of chromium". Chrome colored or chrome painted would be much more accurate. "Chrome Clad" is misleading and would lead any normal person to believe it was covered in a chromium metal compound (not painted plastic).

"chro·mi·um

   /ˈkroʊmiəm/ Show Spelled[kroh-mee-uhm] Show IPA
–noun 1. a lustrous, hard, brittle, metallic element used in alloy steels for hardness and corrosion resistance, as in stainless steel, and for plating other metals"

This doesn't say anything about covering plastic... It says plating metals...
