Default Chrome Plating

I have a set of platinum rims that i put on my XTR in the summer but the polished aluminum just doesnt look all that good with all the chrome i have on my truck. Has anyone had anything chrome plated before and what was the cost like. Is it worth it to have them plated they would look really good chrome or am i just better off the buy a set of chrome rims?

I've had plenty of aluminum motorcycle parts chromed. IIUC, the main thing for a long lasting chrome-over-aluminum job is to copper-plate the aluminum first, then chrome over the copper. Based on what I've done, i wouldn't be surprised if the cost of chroming each wheel was in the range of $200.

I think they would look great chromed up. But it's probably just as much to chrome them, as buy new ones. I have the factory chrome plated plastic on my XTR, and as much as I don't mind mine, real chrome over metal does look better. I have heard that plating aluminum is more difficult and potentially costly (maybe that's why manufacturers are plating plastic wheel skins). If you decide to do it, please post some pics.

North, I was on ebay the other day searching 2011 Ford F150 20" wheels. There's a wheel shop out of California on there that chrome plates wheels. They then sway the chrome ones for the customers wheels. As I read they will ship you the wheels, and then allow you to ship your old ones back to them. Prices didn't seem to out of line. Something to check out if you like.
